Chem Marin stop parasite

Whenever I see these products pop up on here, I Google them to see if I can find their active ingredients. The BS ones always make it difficult, if not impossible, to find this information.

So, all I've got to go on really is this from F&S website: "All-natural parasite treatment".

There is nothing "all-natural" that effectively treats any disease we face in this hobby. There is nothing "all-natural" or herbal that is an actual medication. Might help manage it, but that's about it.....

I used this product several years ago, before I knew any better. The idea behind the treatment is absurd. It's just pepper juice, and their claim is that the parasite will attach to the pepper and be pulled into the skimmer. The only results you see is an empty wallet, and it does drastically drop the ph of the water.

I agree with the above posts. There simply are no reef safe parasite cures. If one ever is developed, it will be the discovery of the century for the hobby. This stuff has been around a while and I've never heard of it working. There have a few of these tabasco sauce remedies that came and went. I've never understood why "all natural" is a big deal. Arsenic is all natural too.

Im not attempting to cure the fish, I know it won't cure them, I am looking to at least help them fight it off. I am aware of the PH dropping with this and have plenty of buffer I can add. My question is has there been any problems with this with someone who knew what they were doing and managed the PH?

With all due respect, anyone who knows what they are doing would not use this product. But clearly you are free to do what you think best.

The vast majority of people who know what they are doing CURE ich (I assume that's what's in your tank) or prevent it from entering their display tanks in the first place. They don't just try to help them fight it off. Most people who know what they are doing know that fish cannot fight off ich indefinitely. Snorvich, who , posted above, knows what he's doing, knows more about ich than anyone I know. Buy, hey, what do I know about pepper sauce and PH ? I've never tried it, so I guess I don't know what I'm doing and really shouldn't be posting here. But when it comes to pepper sauce protocol, I don't know what I'm doing, so maybe I'll be excused.

For one, it may have a negative impact on your corals (see link below):

Stop Parasites:

These corals appeared fine until the last day of their treatment. At that point, they quit pulsing and became limp. But, they recovered a normal appearance by the next day and remained that way until day ten, when they contracted again. They occasionally extended polyps and expanded, but remained limp. I also observed during the instances when these Xenia expanded that the pinnules on their polyps were almost completely gone. Only small nubs remained where the fine, feather-like appendages should have been. While these corals did seem to be adversely affected by the treatment, they survived.

It is looking for the proverbial silver bullet which stops ich in its tracks except, of course, when it doesn't. Read the reviews online. Noone is saying not to use it, on the other hand you are looking for confirmation that it works which we, in good conscience, simply cannot give.

It is ineffective at parasite control. It is very effective at monetary reduction. If that's your thing, have at it.
i agree.
It not only is ineffective; it gives the hobbyist false hopes of a cure and wastes precious time. Time that can make the difference between losing fish and saving them. There have been dozens of products; the big print implies they cure ich. The fine print will just use terms like "helps control...", "helps the fish protect itself, etc" . Ich needs to be completely eradicated or it will return; anything that doesn't do this is worthless, or worse, IMO. There simply are no substitute for quarantining fish, treating with a proven cure, and leaving the main tank fishless for 10-12 weeks to allow the parasites to die off fro lack of a fish host.

Of course, if all fish are properly quarantined before being put in the main system; parasites should never be a problem. I think almost every hobbyist has read this, but far too many don't think it will happen to them. I think this is the biggest reason for the high turnover and all the cheap equipment on Craigslist.
