Cherub angels always got along, now fighting

I have two cherub angelfish that I acquired as tiny juveniles in the fall. They've both more than doubled in size. They've always gotten along well, with just a little chasing, but lately they're literally going round and round, with the smaller one periodically hiding. The bigger fish doesn't seek the other one out, but they go in circles for a couple of seconds when they run into each other.

They were almost the same size up until quite recently. Now one is getting noticeably larger. No torn fins, just lots of quarreling. Is this just a normal part of the process of them sorting out genders and forming a pair?

The tank is a 50G with plenty of live rock and hiding places. Tankmates include blennies, tiny gobies, and a huge royal gramma.
