Chiller Fuse

I have a JBJ 1/3 HP Chiller model DBM-250.

Today the chiller was tripping a power strip I had it plugged into. I then plugged in right into the GFI outlet and then it the chiller went off (no lights on, on the front) and will not come back on. I am hoping it is just the fuse. The chiller is around 3 years old. I do not remember the last time I vacuumed the front (I know) and there was decent buildup of dust. I am hoping now that I cleaned it and a change of the fuse it will be fine.

With regard to the fuse, It is a 15Amp Ceramic fuse. The manual says:

15 Amp / 250 Volt Ceramic Fuse / Item No: DB-F2-15

Can I just use a 15A microwave oven fuse I picked up a Lowes? The size is the same. The one from the chiller is white while the others are gray. Also the one from the chiller says 15A/250VP while the one from Lowes says 15A/250V. There is no "p" after the V.

The one I picked up at Lowes is a Cooper Bussman ABC-15.

Also, if not the fuse, anyone have any other ideas?

thanks,

Mike

I decided to put in the 15amp fuse I got from Lowe's. The power to the chiller turned on but it was cool last night and I kept the cabinet doors open so the chiller has not kicked into cooling mode. I assumed the 15amp fuse from Lowe's would work if it was a fuse issue but I am concerned it is the wrong type and there will be an issue when the chiller kicks in.

So any comments on using the Lowe's fuse is appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Well when the chiller need to turn on, i heard the compressor kick in and in 20 or 3 seconds the breaker on my power strip (Apex Energy Bar) tripped. So I assume something is wrong with the chiller. I have had it for 2 years and 10 months so it is out of warranty. Anyone have any idea what could be the issue and it it typically for these to fail so quickly?

thanks,

Mike

Sounds like its drawing too much power on that circit .... Try plugging it in to a circit with no other devices on it and if it still does the same thing I'd say the chiller has an electrical issue. At that point you can maybe ship the chiller to jbj and they can fix it. It would be cheaper then buying a new one

thanks. I tried a 20Amp circuit that I have a few other things on and put a kill-A-watt meter before the chiller. When the compressor kicks on it shows over 22.8 amps and then drops down to 0.6amps after a few seconds. I also hear a little pop. I am thinking that is not right and something is wrong with the chiller. I do not think it should drawing 22 amps when the compressor kicks in. I am surprised the 15Amp fuse did not blow.

thanks,

Mike
