Chiller problem

I mentioned to a few at the mtg that my chiller was not keeping up. There is a good reason for that - NO FREON. I'm on a long weekend so I call an air conditioning repair company and they came out and a thin 1/8" coiled line had rubbed against the compressor and wore a hole thru it. If he can sweat in a patch it will be $180, otherwise it will be $180 plus a new line at cost + 10% which I think is reasonable. It's the $180 I choke on but I guess to drive out to my house twice and refill the freon after the repair its reasonable. There is some question to my compressor's life since it's been running without freon which also contains oil.

I just had my evaporator replaced on Cherokee's for $700... Darn this AC stuff is expensive. Note to self: son needs to get in the biz.

well if you look I made my chiller out of a campuss fridge and it is working I am still in the testing and hope to have it right by next year in the heat. But it has keep my tank below 80 all this year so i am almost there. and it only cost me 53 dollars. hehehehe and here is a pic of the wife and i

What the heck does a pic of you and your wife have anything to do with it. Alcohol vs pain meds.

I've got some pain meds, but I suppose you got some alcohol too so lets not get stupid on account of.... ... humm why not, I'm off tomorrow...

So I'm one up on you...
I'm off to flood the living room again. Haven't done a water change in 3 wks but I blew off the rocks last night and clogged a micron bag overnight. Gonna blow the heck out of the bottom and try to get it all in a micron sock(s). Tank's at 82 with a fan sitting on the sump and no chiller. Bless my wife's patients with me for what's about to happen...

$180 to fix a hole in a tube is highway robbery, IMO. Is it an R-12 system? That could explain the price to evacuate it and replace the refrigerant. You could probably sweat it yourself with a new tube for a whole lot less.

The R134 you get from Walmart for automotive won't go to high enough pressures for a chiller. You'll still need a HVAC person to fill it. I've got a co. in Clinton who'll do it pretty reasonably, but you need to bring the chiller to them.

$180 it was. 3 hrs labor for 30 mins work. Yea, that's steep so they wont get my recommendation but they could do it when I needed it done and I didnt have to move it or wait 2 weeks. Price you gotta pay for house calls and quick service.
