chipped glass

I got this tank from glasscages and it came with a small chip at one edge of the glass. Am I gonna have problems with this or can I fix it with silicone or maybe a good superglue? I cost me about 300 dollars to have this tank delivered to me and I had no choice to take it like that. UPS would have probably charged me 300 to send it back. Any advice I would really appreciate. Thanks. Look in my gallary for the picture of the glass.

I believe you are going to have to take the stress out of the chip. Sometimes they recommend a diamond burr to take the edge off the chip. And once in a while they tell you to take sandpaper and sand out the chip to blend it in. Its gonna matter how far down it is to. Top upper side not as much as a problem as 1/2 way or bottom side. I had a 180 we moved and took a little chip out of. Held for 1 month and gave way no indication at all. There is someone out here with more experience than I. Just my two cents.

Good luck.
Mike

Is this is a new tank from glasscages? I would think they would take care of this if it was damaged from shipping.

that's the problem, I got the damn thing back in November and thought I could fix it since it didn't look too bad to me. I just wonder if any glass places could fix it or put a new pane of glass.

What size is it? I'm willing to bet it would be fine as i did the same thing on a 50 gallon of mine. But it wold be a weak area. If it got hit by something it could just spider crack. I bet its fine but dont take my word for it. Certainly silicone back in that area.

As long as it not tempered you will be okay. If it was scratched on the edge then it is no good. You can silicone it if you feel like you should but that wont make a difference. It has been my experience that this type of chip is okay.

Well, thank you guys for the replies. Silicone the piece and hope for the best. I will keep you guys posted, for this will be an In-wall tank. Today I got my ASM G3 and I will start my 55g sump. Wish me luck. Thanks again.

good luck.. if it were me i would fill it in the back yard and leave it for a month.. see if you get any stress fractures...
