Choosing a Clownfish

J2FcM

Mantis Sociopath.
Hello,

I'm looking into a taking in a Clownfish, and was just looking for some recommendations based on this setup.

I have soft corals; basic stuff, not a lot, all small frags.
29gal bio cube
its pretty much a sand bed with a little bit of live rock, I plan on making a pseudo tower of live rock in the center.
Current inhabitants... a small Mantis Shrimp

I was thinking about a Maroon, because they are larger and aggressive... but I was worried it might attack the Mantis? plus, 29 gal might be too small?

Otherwise, I was thinking something 3-5 inches, that is cool withOUT an anenome... I've seen vids of a Tomato Clown hanging with a Peacock before, the Peacock was the same size or larger.

Is your mantis a Peacock? In your avatar it looks like G.Smithi to me abit.

I would recomond any of the larger Clarkis or a Maroon, Adding more spots to hide and break line of sight will help also.

Good call; yes she is a Smithii... and like I said, my Damsel got ich, when I was very new, and shortly thereafter I found it in my Mantis's jaws in the morning.

Would the Maroon try anything like hosting a soft coral and just constantly aggitate it??? Also, still curious on what a Clown expert would say on a 29 gal for a Maroon... I do LOVE Maroons, and wanted to get one, but I also wanted to make sure the environment was proper.

pics of my current ground setup... pretty sparse... intention is to build a center LR tower since this pic only shows half tanks height

MY Smithi would never come out when fish are around. Named her Sweatpea because it is just about as gentle as a mantis can get. yours may not have the same temper but its still nothing like a peacock.

Im not a real expert but I pretend to be one in my basement. I have 8 pairs of clownfish I breed them and bangi cardinals. I would say in your tank you can have any clownfish you like. A maroon would be fine in a 29 even a pair of maroons.

A maroon could decide to host a coral, but they arent really agro hosters like a clarki. I say get a maroon, or a pair of em.

I would think you will see your mantis alot more with no fish.

Good luck, Nice Mantis!

Thanks for the advice both!

My Smithii pretty much ignored the Damsel, except she assaulted it once when I dropped it into the tank...
occasionally afterward the Damsel would get right in her face and looks really angry... but otherwise my Mantis wouldn't seem to care...

But I will look into that cuz I do like my Mantis wandering around
