Christmas Wrasse?

Reef safe or not? Does anyone have experience with a Christmas Wrasse in their reef? If so, pros and cons? I have read that they are a "with caution" fish for the reef.

Be wary of your shrimp. In my experience "With Caution" fish are usually more reef friendly the smaller you get them or when in a large tank and well fed.

I had one in a reef with no problems at all. They belong to the halichoeres genus which are generally considered reef safe. Great genus for protection against unwanted pests such as flatworms, small predatory snails, nudis, etc. Very pretty fish to boot.

Not if you get a smaller specimen. Once they grow up though, you may have some issues.

FWIW, I have two fish in the halichoeres family. I have the melanurus and the chrysus.
I have a coral banded, but the melanurus hasn't eaten it yet. :)

The chrysus is reef safe, as far as I know, and stays fairly small, compared to the ornatissimus. It is a very active and docile fish, as well as striking.

Good luck. I am now addicted to wrasses....
