Can clams change colour? Because I brought a baby gold/brown squamosa 6 months ago and now its grown quite alot and has changed to electric green colour! Quite cool. It was in a shady spot at first then i moved it to the open direct 150w MH lighting. Its growing quite well and the colour is getting brighter each day!

Hi lilclownfish,

I think you just answered your own question! :D

I too have seen this happen. I got a "rescue clam" from someone that took pity on a clam being kept in light too low for its needs. The mantle was quite brown when he got it and had colored up a little by the time he had to break down his tank. After several months in my tank, it is a lovely dark blue w/ tan markings.

If your clam has grown and colored up, it sounds like you must be doing a great job with it!

I have found the same thing. When I bought Squamosa from the LFS it was green within about a year it turned blue. Note, I bought this clam when it was about 2" now it is about 7".
