Ok, is it possible for a clam to shed an old abyssl string and grow a new one...

my new clam, crocea, was having its abyssl string poping out of the sandbed, i gave it a nice easy tug to see if it was attached to anything. And it was attached to the glass. Now i just noticed the abyssyl string that was popping out of the sandbed is now detached and floating around the tank! is this normal?

yes clams 'can' drop their byssal thread and grow a new one. hopefully when you tugged on him you didn't hurt the gland. can you post a picture of the thread and clam??

if i posted the picture i took it wouldnt help anyone. my camera is at my in-laws house so i had to use a very old web camera.... needless to say, you cant notice anything.
