Derasa's have a distinct blue rim on them and also have a pretty uniqie color and color pattern. Maximas and croceas are usually no where near this color.

The sure fire way to ID a clam is by it's shell, but the above is right...that mantle is totally a Derasa

The clam posted is definitely a Dearsa.

However, with all due respect, Derasas do not have nearly the same color variance, intensity, or diversity as Maximas or Croceas. They are by no mean ugly or bland, but they cannot approach the other two. I guess it is a very subjective thing.

The ideal way to identify clams is by their shell.
