No they should be open most of the time something is probably picking on it. what kind of fish and inverts do you have? They should settle within a couple days. What are your water parameters and how long has your tank been up and running?
I have a pair of clowns, a foxface and a goby. A few hermit crabs (may be the problem) and some snails. Tanks been up for almost 2 years, and all water parameters are good. I have only had the clam for 36 hrs though.
