clam question

I just got a clam. It is about 4 inches long. I have him on the bottom of the tank. My tank is 29 inches deep with 3 175 watt MH lights. Is enough light penetrating to the clam or do I need to set the clam on a rock a little higher in the tank?

10K, 20K???

Probably needs to be higher in either case, but the higher the kelvin...usually the less par and light will not penetrate as depp. I would raise it.
Crocea are rock lovers...not sand dwellers.

What spectrum and brand are your lights?? 20K or 10K? The following is recommended by many...175W for 20" and below, 250W for 24", and 400W for 30" tall tanks. Those are general guidelines though. If you are running 20K, I'm going to say you don't have enough light for a crocea on the sand bed..

You can read here for some general guidelines on how to select the right bulb for your tank.

I would just move it up into the rocks as high as you can under the halides. Most people recommend using a 10K bulb for clams, but you should be able to get by with a 20K if the clam is as close to the light as possible.

The crocea is the most demanding in terms of light. It is also the most likely to be damaged if it is wild harvested due to the way it bores into rock.
