Clam Question

Hey, I have a 260 watt lighting system on my 72 gallon. I decided to add my old flourecent lights on( 80 watts). So the total is 340 Watts. I put my powercompact on the back, and the flourecent on front. Can i keep a clam in it or no? its about 5 watts per gallon..

Hate to say it, but no. YOu might be ok with H. Hippopus. There is a chance a squamosa might be ok, but it likely wouldn't thrive, just survive. A maxima or crocea would be a definate no. If you're interested in clams, metal halide is your best bet.

An example....I had 2 65 watt PCs over a 15 gallon (12" deep) That's a lot of light for that tank. I tried a squamosa, considered to be the least light demanding. He was ok, but definately not a happy, growing clam. The second I replaced those PCswith a 175w MH bulb, he was happy as a clam. I was also able to keep maximas then.

I had good luck with a squamosa under 2x96 powercompact. but they will really love you under halides! good luck!

dang foo, 175 MH for 12" tall 15G???!?!?!???

can i get tose pcs for cheap resale price?

That's nothing. There are 100+ (more likely several hundred) people on here with MH bulbs on 5-20 gallon tanks. Some poeple have put 400 watters over 10 gallons. SPS/Clams need/love mh light, in any size tank.
