Packs a pretty potent sting....I would work on giting rid of some, and yes im sure it would harm clams, but since I havent any near my clams I cant give you a definite yes from personal experience just giving you an edcatuated guess...
pepermint shrimp help, copperband butterflys help but are a moderate risk with clams, the only other options is taking out the live rock and treating it with a kalk paste...a lot depends on how infested your tank is...
generaly yes pepermints are reef safe...although there are always exceptions to a rouge orginism in the tanks...IME my pepermints have been perfect, actually I hardly see them since they tend to hide in the rockwork...
