clams and phosphate

I have a crocea clam I've had about a year and a half. I added a phosphate reactor this morning that I've had and run in the past with no problems. All of a sudden my clam looks real crappy and won't extend it's mantle. It's still alive but should I remove the reactor. It's only been running since this morning. Ideas would be great. I didn't think that it would make a huge impact on phosphates so soon, at least not to were it would affect the clam.

did you rinse the phosphate well before using it. the reactor wouldnt drop phosphates that quick, but if you had phosphate dust get into the water column it may have irritated it

I rinsed it in some ro water in a bowl. I could have done a better job probably. If that's what it is it should recover then, right.

I will bet that was it.

you should put the media in the reactor, then using the powerhead feed ro/di thru it on a medium flow until the output water runs clear.

I do not know how the dust will effect the clam, however I have been amazed at the amount of stupid stuff my derasa has survived over the years
