Clam's detached itself

Hey guys

My clam that I have had for months has detached and left its foot behind.
It seemed very happy so I'm not sure why it's done this.
My question is, will the clam survive without its foot? And what can info to help it?
Should I remove its old foot from the tank?

I really have no idea, and it's a weird situation.
Thanks guys. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1451174118.380664.jpg

it will be just fine with the loss of the byssal threads. if it detached because it is unhappy or not having its needs met in its current spot, that is a different story, but they aren't harmed when they eject that.

go ahead and just remove the old threads from the tank.
