Clams light

Hey,
I have a 12g nano with compacted lighting with 2x 24 watts compacted light. I just love clams, the dark blue ones, greenish ones. I was wondering is my light to low for a clam. I heard ( Im trying to remeber) that a Derasa are low lighted clams. Would i need to take it out and feed it with plankton?
thanks

dersa's grow up to 2' and wouldn't be suitable for a nano cube. you would have to upgrade your lights, 48W isn't enough.

i think your only option would be to upgrade you lights and go with a crocea ( because they stay small )

There was one who was successful with PC's on here but I wouldn't risk it. I had one under VHO's at one point for about a year with no issues. A deresa however, gets big, and quick. I wouldn't put that in a nano.

I recently set-up a 55 gal fuge in cabinet beneath my reef tank. I was hoping to keep a clam or two there under 150w of PC's but I guess not. Thinking about a hang on MH but don't know if that would be safe. Unfortunately, I have a couple of angels and a moorish idol in the big tank and I think they'd make a quick meal of a clam.

I have my crocea under t5. So not every clam has to be under metal halide.

How long have you had it?

I had a small maxima for about a year under pc's before I got my halides. Did okay, held it's colors but never grew. Lost it in a tank snafu.

I see that there are inexpensive clip on halides (70 & 150 double ended) called viper-2. Not much morethan pc's or T5's. Any experience with this. Certainly aquickand easy way to supplement pc's.

I have about 1/4 of new shell growth (white extension vertical). I believe shell growth has been minimized by a long battle w/ pm (knock on wood--no signs for 1 1/2 weeks). I dose a squirt of phyto feast once a week. The clam is 5" so I don't believe phyto is needed.

I have 2 Croceas, 1 maxima and a gigas under 150w MH pendant for over a year. They are a good ways from the light and I use a 20k bulb. They grow like weeds! Just keep parameters up to par and youll be set. Brighter lights make them get alot more color but they can be kept under lower lighting conditions if acclimated properly. Im not saying under PC's, im just saying 150w 20k is not that bright.
