Clavularia lumen/PAR question

crypteria

Greetings, I have a Aqueon Evolve 8 LED tank that I originally intended just for feeder shrimp and live rock, but I have considered growing one or two frags of relatively undemanding soft corals.

At the bottom of the tank, the LEDs emit 25.5 PAR and 2445 lux. Is this enough light for Clavularia? If so, could you recommend a photo period?

Or are there other corals you would recommend for this light? I am not a fan of mushroom corals and would prefer to avoid the more noxious softies, like leathers.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
Cheers,
Austin

Ok, thanks! The informative link you posted certainly put the weakness of the Aqueon LED in perspective. I'll stick to live rock and feeder shrimp only.

According to that link(retail) you can't grow Pachyclavularia or Euphyllia with less than 300 PAR :/

25.5 PAR does seem pretty low but you can certainly maintain some coral. There are some deepwater varieties. Regardless at such low light levels any coral you keep is going to need to feed in order to make up the balance. I'd try to find some coralimorpharia(mushroom polyps) or zoanthids from a local reefer with dim lighting.

If you find you can't maintain the specimens you aquire then perhaps some non-photosynthetics like say tubastrea or dendronepthya. Both are colorful and grow readily with proper care and feeding.
