i have a 10g nano and would like to know what I should get, how many and at what point I should add them. Still cycling but almost done with that. Any help would be appreciated, thanks
Add your cuc bit by bit. Half a dozen animals at a time over a week or two. Get a couple of this, a few of that, and one or two of those each time.
Acclimate them very slowly, particularly snails. Drip in your tank water over a few hours or so. The slower the better.
You can let the snails attach to the few centimetres above the water line. They will slowly move into the tank at their own leisure. However, acclimate them slowly before hand just the same.
dont get an urhin! not till use had it stable for 6 monthes. you can look for a rock that has tiny tiny tiny white brittle stars on eit but dont buy a big one till youve had the tank stable for six monthes
Uhh for clean up crew, I would say get like 10-15 snails and maybe a few hermits, but I dont think hermits help that much. For snails
Astrea are good and so are
Cerith, margarita(I think thats what their called),nassarius, trochus and I think that is it. If i were you, I wouldnt get an urchin or a fighting conch.
I speak from much experience. I am not simply repeating things that I have read here or on another forum.
No need to rush on the urchin or conch. Shiite, you can probably do without them, but your system will do much better with them. That's for sure.
Your tank, small urchin and small conch will thrive. Some people have a fanatical objection to them based on some scare mongering that happens from time to time. People who keep them love them and wouldn't be without them. Whatever...
Stability isn't a problem for an urchin. They can eat coralline, though. Perhaps that's what natep206 was getting at?
By the way, there is a trend here on RC that goes along the lines of hermits hunting snails. I have never seen that in over a decade of keeping marine tanks. Provide shells and feed every day.
