Cleaner clams

I just got an email from saltwaterfish.com with a special on cleaner clams. They claim they will reduce nitrates as they filter the water.

Anybody have any experience with these guys? Are the a warmer water clam that will live in a reef for longer than a month?!

Are they worth it?

Thanks!!

Filter feeders feed on particulates, not dissolved nutrients. Like all animals they have to eat and they turn that food into nitrogenous waste- aka ammonia. They do nothing at all to reduce nitrate. Skip them. They're just plain old quahogs anyway.
