Cleaner Wrasse Help

Have had this guy for a few years. Have noticed him getting real thin the last month or so. He still eats like a pig and cleans the other fish. Have been overfeeding the tank to try to keep him going. Wondering what might be the problem. Thanks in advance for the help. Mike

I'm not sure what it could be exactly. But if he's eating well, and continuously losing weight, something may be missing from his diet (ie. mineral, vitamin etc. ) that they might get more naturally in the wild.

I used to keep exotic reptiles and they'd eat and seem happy although supplemented with vitamins and calcium, but over time they'd just suddenly get sick and drop dead. It's hard to mimic a natural diet/sunlight for captive critters.

Hey Lee, nice early Christmas present from the Blueshirts!

Do you think a vitamin suppliment to the food will help ? I have been down this road before and usually end up with an algea outbreak from the overfeeding. Just hate to see him waste away. On the same topic i have a blue linkia that i got from Tony {REEF EXOTICS} a few years ago. He also seems to be shrinking. Wondering if i can hand feed him at night to perk him up.

Yes, the Rangers stepped up as contenders (on paper) with those signings. I think they still may need a D man, I was hoping for Rafalski, but all is good. I actually feel bad for the Islanders fans right now, oh well.

If you had a QT tank for the fish and the star it might be worth it to try suppliments. From my experience once you notice the downward turn, it's difficult for them to bounce back.

If you've had success hand feeding the linkia, it's worth a shot. I have one sandsifter star and a small orange one. I have no idea what they eat, but they've been around for a while.

I'll have to give you a buzz soon and get some coral. Now that the summer has arrived I should have a bit more free time :)

Could also be a parasite. Not sure what medication to try for that, but someone on the disease forum would know.

Also, good to know that Vitamin B12 can act as an appetite stimulant in fish--could add that to your tank.
