Anyone have a food suggestions for this guy (Labroides dimidiatus ). Been reading they can be hard to keep.

yeh easiest fish in the world to keep in australia, eat anything i put in the tank. (just got a new tiny one with wicked colours) But i have heard the ones in the US have terrible survival recoreds??? something to do with the transport? i dunno, but every one i have had has grown fat and large, and helped keep my tankmates happy, when skunk cleaner shrimp are $200 here this wrasse is a great purchase, however some people say they should be kept in the sea as they have a job to do, the way i see it is anything taken from the sea no matter what it was had a job to do cleaner wrasse or blue tang....

Damn i feel bad just got a pair for about 25 dollars...

I wouldn't go telling him their easy to keep. If you have a very large tank with lots of fish you have a chance but other then that i wouldn't even bother trying. Also they may eat prepared foods but then one day end up dead ( happen to mine ).

I fed last night brine, ground up clams, squid, and some other meaty stuff. It ate vigously, even cleaned my Yellow Wrasse. His first night in the tank he seems healthy and active. Makes me wonder if what Ive read online is acurrate. One sight says easy care eats prepared foods as I saw last night other sights say bad choice should be left in the sea.

Had to post and ask what the deal is. Seems to constantly be hunting for food in the rocks like any other Wrasse.:D

Some of it depends on the wrasse.
Mine tears mysis appart, along with foumula2, and most other meaty foods. The key though is that I have to hold the frozen cube in the tank and let it peck away and get first dibs as it thaws. The reason I have to do this is because it has such a small mouth that to eat free floating mysis it has to get the right orentation on the food. In the mean time, one of the fairy wasses will come in a take the food before he is ready to grab it.

The LFS that accidentially got my cleaner in, ordered a bunch about a month later. Not a one was willing to eat no matter what they tried.

Myssis good to know Ill ave ot pick some up and gve that a try as well. Ive read a brine diet is a non nutritional diet as well and fish can and will starve to death of malnutrition even if its eating brine. I got excited it ate at all but seemd to pick out the brine more so than the other food.
Also read people had success with Beef heart blended up very small. Ill try that a well.

Amazing to watch my yellow Wrasse present itself for a cleaning first day that was cool.

Almost like it knew that fish was able to do that. Ive seen my Cleaner shrimp clean my tangs but this was totaly differnt. Something special to watch. Hope he stays healthy and I can keep him around for the long haul. I bought it out of ignorance. I was looking for a six line and its colors struck my fancy. I should have known better bt couldnt help myself.

yeh agree they have small mouths but mine will take 3 bites at a brine shrimp till it gets all of it, picks at the frozen cube with the rest of the group and is very inquisitive searches around rocks all day, my fish do not stop asking for a cleaning..

i have a massive problem now tho, all my fish are in a qt tank that will go under copper treatment tommorow, this fish cant as he will die, and so i think i have no choice but to take him back as hypo wont kill the parasites he's been subjected too, really annoyed cos i love his colouring....

I added a big Anthis once and the first thing it did was stop off for the cleaner shrimp to do their thing. It is the only time, in my tank, I have actually seen fish flair their gills to get cleaned.
One thing I hae noticed with the cleaner wrasse is that they can get pesty. If I have skipped the morning feed, the cleaner can aggrivate some of the fish by constantly trying to clean. Also they can nip clams. Mine develpoed a habit of nippipping at the clams to the point that it was one or the other, as the clams weren't comming out.
Mine even nipped the physogyra but REALLY didn't like what he got.

I originally had a Lunare Wrasse which is very active and has similar colors in differnt pattern. However that particular wrasse is an invert eating machine. Tore thru my snails like a Sunday brunch at the all u can eat buffet. So I took him right back and got the yellow wrasse.

The yellow is cool as well hes very dosile and fun to watch. He taunts my Powder Blue Tang into a hissy fit but generally hunts for pods all day in the rock. Nips at the clip from time to time. I like the yellow alot.
