Cleaning Filter Socks

Whats the best method, or I should say most common method? Thanks.

Washer with no detergent

Soak in a 5-gallon bucket of 10% bleach solution overnight (or for at least 3-4 hours). Rinse and air dry.

The bleach oxidizes (degrades/dissolves) any organic materials on the filter socks and then it dissipates completely after rinsing and air drying. No need to waste time or money running the washing machine for a few filter socks.

I wash a dozen at a time in the machine. Turn them inside out, 1 cup of bleach, no detergent. An extra rinse cycle.

I have a couple dozen socks. I put the dirty ones in a bin and when its full, about a dozen socks (I use the large X100 socks) I wash in the machine. I change them 2X per week, so about every 6 weeks I wash a load of the socks.

It doesnt smell good but it has a cover that locks on and keeps the smell in. But it's not all that bad, when I pull the cover to put a dirty sock in, it isnt overwhelming, it doesnt stink up the room or anything like that.

Gotcha. Being married and living in an apartment, I don't think that would be an option for me.

This is what I do also. Works great. Much better than washing them by hand with the hose or any other method. Then I simply throw them in the dryer and they're good to go.

Been married for nearly 20 years, she would tell me if it stunk up the room. It honestly doesnt. You could always keep the bucket outside if you have a balcony or seperate porch for your apt.

Thanks DarG, I was thinking of going that route. I'll give'r a go today, have the house to myself

One more thing. I turn them inside out when I first pull them out of the sump. Really would rather not stick my hand inside a larger filter sock that has been sitting in the bin for 6 weeks in order to turn it inside out
