cleanup crew for moray tank?

Generally speaking are there scenarios where snails, hermits, and things of that nature can be kept in tanks that have morays? I've never attempted to keep any mobile inverts with morays, but have contemplated adding some snails or something. Just wanted to know what are thoughts on this.

I have assumed Echidnas will find a way to eat the hermits, but don't really know with snails

Small snails and hermits should be fine in most cases. I've kept them with most piscivorous morays without problems. I did have a Brazilian Dragon moray (M. pavonina) that killed nassarius snails for fun. He'd grab them when they came out to feed and shake them until they died, then he'd lose interest and move on to a new snail. Never ate a single one that I saw.

sorry to dig up this old thread, but I never got around to adding any sort of CUC yet, so I've been contemplating adding some relatively large hermit crabs...has anybodt ever done so with G. fimbriatus..or are small hermit or snails a better way to go?

i have snails and lots of hermits with me ghost ribbon. i know mine is ALOT smaller than the ones you are mentioning. i would say hermits and a snails would be fine. just make sure they have shells. thats all.

Snails have done well with all of the morays I've kept, fimbriated included, but I've never added hermits because they have a bad rep as murderers, and snails get the job done anyway. A larger hermit might be getting closer to a menu item because it is big enough to draw attention and big enough for a juvenile eel to get in the opening. This is assuming we are talking about those baseball sized hermits.

how big are the snails and hermits you use? do you have a prefence with smaller vs. bigger? I've been hesitant to add inverts with eels, especially with my fimbriatus

My hermits are standard blue and red legs. The only snails I have are nerites. Pyramid snails wiped out the rest. I tried a yellow wrasse to eat the pyramids, fimby made short work of the wrasse.

I also keep 3 cleaner and 5 fire shrimp with the fimby.

I have rather big hermit in my 150 with a bunch of piscivorous morays as well as some other unidentified crabs, a bunch of shrimp and 100 or so small hermits. Snails don't last long due to the crabs, but I've never seen any of my morays eat anything that wasn't fed to them.
