Water Param:
amm, nitrate, etc. - 0
phos - <5 ppb
pH - 8.0-8.1
cal - 440
dKh - 8-9
temp - ~78 F
sg - 1.026
I dose calcium and alk as necessary to maintain them where they are. 10-20% water changes get done every 7-10 days. Amm and nitrates have been zero for a couple of months with no spikes. I feed LRS Reef Frenzy once a day (small amounts most days but twice a week spot feed some corals, too) with some occasional real ocean eggs to vary diet. Also feed 2-3 ml of oyster feast every 2-3 days.
I have a little bit of hair algae but nothing out of control. Just took the activated carbon out of the filter setup and after a few days noticed the film appearing in little strings here and there. I assumed it was from the wrasse's mucus cocoon (he was just added about same time it started) but it has now become a nuisance. Coating most of the upper rear glass and lots floating on surface. Doesn't seem to be bothering any of the tank inhabitants, though. After some research most indicate it's likely a bacterial bloom and nothing really to be concerned about but I'd like to get a little feedback if possible.
Is it possible this is due to removing the carbon? Could it be from the wrasse? Seems excessive to be just from a small 1-2" fish. Should I not worry about it and just keep an eye on it? Seems no one recommends any definite routes for getting rid of it besides wc's and manual removal.
Thanks,
-Steve
