wow.....I came home today with a new fish (surprise for this weekend), and i fed them about an hour later....i began watching and noticed that my longnosed hawk was no where to be seen. well after searching and searching....i noticed his tail flipping around near the back.....i tried to make him move or net him....there is no doing that in a 120 gallon reef tank loaded with live rock.....so i crawled behind the tank....there was mister hawkfish (gary is his name) and he was sitting behind a rock with his snout in an astrea snail....IT WAS STUCK IN THERE....i finally was able to get the snail off that was stuck to his nose....close call i would say....seems to be fine now......lol

Wow, that's a pretty wild story! Do you mind if I ask how you like your longnosed hawk? I was thinking about possibly getting one for my tank. In your experience, does he mostly stay out of sight, or is he out and about now and then? Do you manage to keep any larger shrimp with him?

Thanks,
Brad

i absolutely love him. He is great in my reef tank. I have a large coral banded shrimp and they do not mess with each other. I see him all the time. He is usually perched up on the rocks on both sides. I have many powerheads on a wavemaker and when they were lower he would perch on them, so i raised them to the top. I think they are great in reef tanks and I love it.
