Closed Loop Question?

I have two holes in the bottom of my 185 that is in progress,

I was planning on using these as a simple closed loop, the 1" for the intake and the 3/4" for the return. The holes are valved and the tank is currently running and a few days into the cycle.

My concern/question:
Will a pump such as a Little Giant 800gph be able to handle the high water pressure from being connected directly to the bottom of the tank? Is this safe??
I have seen most CL's run to the back or top of the tank, not all bottom for intake AND returns??

'fraid not Bugs... you need at minimum +2400gph rated pump... current i'm working on a big project with two closed-loop systems may you visit to get some ideas: Flying Dutch at ReefCentral

since I can remember I use closed-loops and they need a 'big' pump.

I'm using a Dart with a Baldor motor (3500gph) for the main pump. I just bought a new Snapper (2400gph) with an AO motor and could use that pump for the CL instead?

Hello,

You get no head lose when using close loop only friction lose from inside of pipe and fitting. A Little Giant pump will work it's important to supply pump as rated so if pump inlet is 1" then you need a 1" drain to feed pump.

sure! that's a great pump!!! you may use some loclines to redirect/split the outlet and get a kind of gyre flow, do you know what I'm meaning?

I'd use the loclines to split the returns and get more a pattern

Loclines already done...

Lockline return LEFT - Intake Strainer RIGHT

Will do a test run this weekend with the Snapper pump and see what happens.

Hello I have a reeflo barracuda and would like to use this pump as my return and somewhat of a close-loop system/ multiple out lets including the bottom and top of the tank included a picture of my setup any suggestions would be great
