New to zoa's/paly's is it normal for them to be closed. They were shipped 1 1/2 weeks ago and now they are closed up. Temp has gone up 2 deg this week. I checked the parameters and all seems normal.

Looked at them early in morning and had pod's crawling all over the colony. I have read a few posts of pods eating zoa's.

I know a lot of people will say that pods dont eat zoa unless they are dying... but I had a colony slowly recede from the same exact reason. Whether it was from the pods stressing them out and keeping them closed or if they were melting away themselves, it was definitely the problem.

From the research I did, I found that pods dont typically attach zoa, but once the pod population gets too big and without a natural predator, they start to run out of food and begin to eat coral.

What I did was get a wrasse (or you can get any pod eating fish) and within 2-3 days, once the pod population was almost gone, the zoa literally came back like nothing happened!!!

Best $12 investment I ever made. Saved me from losing $50 polyps from completely disappearing

Move the paly/zoa's up to frag rack and will be getting a leopard wrasse. Maybe the combination will work. Population explosion with no predetors

Pods do eat zoas/polyps. Some of my polyps closed up and lost color. I noticed a bunch of amphipods in between and around the frags/ colonies. I got myself a red coris wrasse and he began to eat them up. Its been 2 weeks and my polyps are doing much better.

Rasta's have opened up all they way and 1 agave finally peeked out. I think the 3 days away from pod disturbance was the difference. Not sure what to do next, mayy move them back down after a couple of days and see if the same thing is repeated. I Put in a leopard and Carpeter & McCosker but they haven't started the hunt yet. May extra food in water will keeps pods busy
