Closed up Zoas?

Some of my Zoas have been closing up on me.

After an initial bout of Aiptasia my Zoas have been doing pretty well I had 1 fall off when putting it in my tank and where I placed it, it has split in to a little colony of 5. However the Zoas on the 'main piece' seem to be stagnate, for lack of a better word.

On the tippy top they have been closing up on me. Could this be caused by having to much water flow?

Here is how it looks now:

Zoanthids are funny as they will tend to do this periodically. Usually, they will open up again in due time, so don't panic. I have some that are doing this right now and have had some that did it and are now open now.

see that 'stick' in the middle of the closed up polyps? looks like a vermetidae snail. They irritate corals. You need to snap it off with a pair of tweezers and scrub the area with a knife tip, or something to keep it from growing back.

Will a Bayer bath/dip kill the vermetidae snails? I'm experiencing the same issue.

It might, but it's so much easier to just snip it off with some tweezers.
Thanks...I was just thinking maybe I would try dipping to eliminate pests that may be bothering them. I will snip it off as you suggest, since I do actually see one.

Sorry OP...I didn't mean to high jack your thread.

Yep. It was due to a thread similar to this one that I learned what was bothering my zoas. I never realized what those little sticks were.. Now I snip them off whenever I see them. Zoas are happy again

Yes they can retreat to their tube during dips to protect them. They also go away after a while and snipping is a must as noted.
