Clown/Anemone Pairing

If you only knew~ lol~
For real, I must be very luck with anemones, just really unlucky with zoos..........anyways
When I got him from the LFS he was neon green, the BF got him from me cause he thought he was "cool looking" than I found out his cool color was him expelling his zoathid (sp)

Then he got sucked into the intake of my filter, I never expected him to recover from that.

Then he did very well

Then he bleached out because of my ignorance with changing my bulbs

and this was him when I sold him.

I couldnt believe how hardy this anemone was.

I agree, not everything works out this way, but it can.
I just worry that when someone thinks about doing something "not by the book" sometimes we can come across harsh, and IMO I think that they do it anyway, but than w ont go to anyone on the board if they get in trouble because there will be that "I told you so" atmosphere.
I think most of us here are contencious (sp) of the livestock we put in out tanks, I cant tell you the sleepless nights I had with that anemone, worrying if he was happy if he was going to move and get sucked in again, even with the sponges!
I just wish we were a support system as well as a learning tool.
Remember its just my opinion and dont mean anything negative towards anyone.
=)

Yeah black/blue ribbon eels are very hard to get to eat and most never do eat frozen food I've been told by more than one person that its neigh on unheard of. Pictures of slinky, my black ribbon eel, and my other fish and tanks can be found at http://picasaweb.google.com/jsl6v8/Fish most of slinkys pictures are at the bottom and are a bit old I think slinky is going to start to turn blue on me soon, I need to take new pictures of him. He is about 30-32 inches now, based on rough guessing with the help of a measuring tape unfortunately I haven't taught him to stay still for the tape, I understand that around this length they start to turn into what is commonly known as the blue ribbon eel :-)

wow, that is SOOO cool man, i relaly want one now....lol, but no, i will have to wait until i get another larger aquarium. All i can keep in my 30 gallon is richardsons, snowflakes, and wolfs, and maybe a chainlink (i was told, but IDK think so)...but im pushing it with one Green Wolf Eel... but i will get ont when i get a bigger eel tank. DO you keep yours wih you other fish, in your main aquarium?

Well really once you get past the whole not eatting and 99% mortality rate thing, the ribbon eel is really great for tanks, by far the thinnest eel and they don't get all that long, I kept mine in a 20G for quarenteening (spelling way off I know) and he was fine, granted I would want him in a bigger tank than that, but the ones I've seen in shoppest lately, not that either of them are eatting to my knowledge, are probably currently small enough to be ok in a 30G, My ribbon eel is currently in a 55G tank and not the 120 which is he biggest I have a 90G that I'm cycling now that he will be moved to when its up with a couple tester fish (not throwing my prize eel in first), but the eel has been in the tank with small damsels, clown fish, gobys, butterflys, peppermint shrimp, dragonettes (granted not the smallest dragonettes I've seen but not the largest either), and a wrasse at one point in time (he is now in there with just a bullet goby and a dragonnete, well the shrimp and hermit crabs) and he doesn't bother any of them, never chased a fish or anything, quite peaceful, I stick my hand in the tank and he doesn't try to swallow my finger or any of that jazz that you get with the wolf eels. He is my peaceful small fish loving reef safe eel affectionately known as slinky, or as my aunts call him stinky, they are quite mean to my eel if I do say so myself.

actually, my Wolf eel is very placid, and mellow. He knows who i am, and if i cup my hand in the water, he will sometimes swim into it and like almost lie there in my hand, like as if he knew that i was just holdign him...it is funny. But he ONLY eats silversides, i have tried and trie dto get him to eat the other frozen foods i have, but he wont, and at $10 a bag of them, he will be runnign me dry...hahahaha. But maybe i will look into the ribbon thing, give it a whirl, i take care of my fish very well, give them alot of attention, and that s what is needed to try to ge tthe eel to eat. Granted, they have their own choice, but if you are waving food in their face hous of the day, and it is hungry, MAYBE it would take it, and learn...lol. Thanks for the help man, i appreciate it, that is soo cool, that you have one, my LFS had oen for the longest time, and it was amazing, its head was startign to turn blue, it was soo cool.

here is my wolf eel......i thought he would be OK wih my damsels, as he was with damsels in th store where i baught him...but no, my pretty little yellwotailed blue damsel was eaten, and i was lucky to have my camera already in my hands wth higspeed on, it was cool....but sad.....lol

whats your LFS? I know of only one place in the orlando area that really carries them. I would strongly urge you not to get one unless you see it eating like I said earlier 99% of the stop eatting once introduced to captivity. Have you tried lance fish or those small eel fish for your eel, my BRE eats frozen krill, freeze dried krill, silversides, lance fish, those small eel things, he absolutely loves fresh calamari once its been frozen he won't eat it anymore though :-). He also will eat bay and sea scallops once in a blue moon.

nope, ive tried a little bit of it all, hw absolutely WONT eaty anythign but siversides, i once dint feed him for days to see if he would finally eat other food...noipe, hed rather starve, stubborn little thigns....lol...OH! but he WILl eat my famsel, and skunk clonwfish, THAT ok thouht....hahaha, i hated him for that, i wanted to strangle it....lol

ok that picture is sooo cool, at first I didn't realize what it was and I thought it looked like a dragon almost lol

That is a cool pic :) Just out of curiosity have you tried any seafood from the grocery store? squid tubes maybe? That is the smelliest stuff and makes great bait.. i can't imagine something not wanting to eat it.. scallops seem to be sought after as well in my tank when i experiment with homemade food

Yes i am, i love PS, and i do it to like ALL of my pictures....lol.

and um...that is what i buy, Dan and i found this multi pack of seafood at the local spanish market with squid, scallops, shrimp, octopus, sea bass, and thes other weird things that my crab likes...lol...but no, ive treid it all with him, he wont eat any of it. But hey, if he likes silversides, then i will give them to him. (i spoil my fish)lol :)

I'm surprised he won't eat lance fish and those sand eel things they are similar to silversides and my eel goes nuts for them

I have to agree, but i get a bit frustrated with it sometimes...i cant wait to get the new version of it
