Anyone know what causes Ocellarus clownfish to sometimes appear bright orange and sometimes darker?

The amount of light can cause darkness.

Wild versus tank raised as well. Wild will be more colorful.

I think this depends on the species.

Tank bred clowns like Doni's, Rod's, C-Quest, etc. are absolutely stunning when they are a little older (1 year +).

Diet is a big part. a lot of those tank raised clowns can be brightened up quickly with foods like cyclopeeze

regardless of diet there is only so much you can make color change, it also has to do with genetics
