I have two clown fish but one is a lot smaller than the other and a darker orange. I know there not the same fish but I know one of them is a Ocellaris but the darker one mabye a percula clownfish. I'm thinking of taking out the little one so I can match the other with one of it's kind. Both these fish were introduced just after new years. I'm wondering if it will be safe. Or if these two fish will be able to mate.

Hi Thomas184. I'm not sure of this, but you may have better luck posting this in the clownfish forum.

What I can tell you is that I purchased two Ocellaris tank raised. They are two different shades of orange. One is a "darker" orange and the other is more like a "crayola" orange. I'm sure it's normal for them not to be the exact same shade, but I'm not sure about the breeding part of your question.

Someone at my LFS did state that once mature, two clowns from two different classes could not be kept together. Again, I'm not sure if this is correct or not. I'm just passing what I was told.

if they are hanging out next to each other then they are probably paired or moving towards it.

The way clownfish sexing works is the female will grow larger than the male. Look around at some pics in the clownfish forum, some pairs are close to the same size while some pairs will have a 4" female and a 1.5" male. That is completely normal. Also, as they age they will get darker and develop a black striping to them. As for whether they are the same species a picture will probably be the only definitive answer.
