After getting advice on replacing my female clown fish, this is what happened.
I went to my LFS and we picked out a small male that seemed to be submissive to the others in the store. I took the fish home and acclimated him to my tank and then placed him with my remaining male. After a short time squaring off with each other, all hell broke loose for about three minutes. Suddenly one darted off across the tank. A period of chasing ensued. Now all appears well with the two hanging around together. There has been no fighting since the first evening four days ago.
I'm glad I did not have to start over with another "pair."
Thanks to those who gave advice.
