Hi ,

Back after a very long absence.
I am thinking about starting a FOWLR Clown tank.

How many could I safely house in a 90 gallon ?
Does the 1 " of fish to 1 gallon of water rule still apply ?

Thanks
a ton !

clown fish are territorial and it'llvary from specimen to specimen

without something to host in they might roam around the tankand butt heads

20+ clowns in a 90? :eek1:

Apparently the inch/gallon method is not a good way to figure out bioload.

I was using a 1" per 5 gallon calculation, and when I mentioned that in a previous post I was told that it shouldn't be used for salt...just freshwater tanks (and maybe not even that). It really depends on your individual tank.

Perfect example: 5 blue-green chromis will not make the same bioload as a 5 inch tang...

i have a pair of false and a pair of black/white and the false mama let the black/white ones know she was the boss. she is bigger than all three and was in the tank first. she nipped at their fins, not sure i would mix those two again.

Even when I would get an order from someplace that tank raised clowns, each type would come in one bag (i.e. all percs in one bag, all tomatos in one bag). For a few weeks eveything would be fine, then they would start beating each other up. IMO, if you started with 20 clowns in that tank, you would only end up with a few pairs (4-6 clowns total). I wouldn't put more than 2 pairs in there.
