Clownfish is sick....

***Sometimes my mom uses my password on here. So if she did post something about this, I'm sorry. I'll keep it short and sweet***

Three days ago my mom bought two clownfish. They had been in the petstore for over a week, perfect as can be. She decided to try her luck in them. We'd had much problem with them before. We just can't seem to keep them alive. So after six months after our last death of a clownfish, she decided to try again.

After about two hours of hiding they were fine. They were swimming around and enjoying themselves. They were doing well. About two week before we bought a Goby. He's been doing very well, eating and everything. The clowns ate as well.

This morning the bigger clownfish wasn't acting right. I thought it might have been slightly stressed. I didnt think much more of it before I headed off to school this morning at 7:30 am. I just got home, and mom informed me that the bigger clownfish had not ate, and now had white stuff coming from its....okay....um....where the poop would usually come out. It's stringy, and it looks like a spider web I guess. It's kinda clear in certain spots, and then it's white in other areas.

We've had this happen before with two out of the other three groups of clowns we have bought. The fish is showing the common signs of stress. He has scabs on him from scratching against rocks, and is swimming uneasily and on the ground in the sand. He's wondered away from his buddy.

What is this white stuff? Is it a virius? How soon does it spread to the other fish if so? If caught on time can it be cured? What should we do with the fish?

We do not have a quarenteen tank set up currently. I have a 10 gal that I despretly need to clean out and convert into a newer, nicer tank for quartentee fish. It was a salt water tank that went into desaster. I have had no time to care for it. A demsel fish remains inside, and we feed him every day but there is just sooooo much algae that I decided it's time to start over with it. I'm hoping to get it cleaned out during Thanksgiving break...do worries, the demsel is going excellent...he's lived through it all...he's in no harm...if he was he'd be out...we watch him closely.

Please let me know if anyone has an answer....we dont want to loose the second clownfish, the one that is not sick if we can help it...we're sure we'll loose the sick fish....

Thanks for your time.

I scanned down more and saw someone else's tang is having the same problem...I think I just solved my own problem...but if anyone else has any suggestions as to what to do with the fish that is most likely going to pass away (poor thing) let me know...this has only been happening for a few hours, so i think the infection got to it faster than we could....how soon could it affect the other fish though?
