Clownfish problems...HELP PLEASE!

How long have they been in the Frogspawn? How long have they had these symptoms? Is your camera WB off or is the colour of these fish not good?

The color is pretty accurate from what you see with the naked eye. I don't have the best camera and I can not adjust the white balance.

The following is a picture of the clowns when I first got them, within the first two hours after delivery. I got them on January 6th and they hosted the frogspawn in the first 60 seconds of being put in the tank.

The symptoms have been showing for 48 hours now.

Like I said they eat well and don't seem like anything is bothering them.

Hmm. The colour looks better in that pic. Possibly a formalin dip might do the trick. What's your water quality like? Regular water changes?

Water quality is honestly the best I've ever had the entire time I've been in this hobby. Nitrates are not registering on two different tests, PH is 8.2, Calcium is 420, Nitrites 0, Ammonia 0, Salinity 1.026, Temp 77.

I would say the water quality is due to the fact that I only have two fish in my tank. I do water changes by monthly.

So do you have any idea what this could be?

Can you give me more information on this formalin dip? Do you have a link on what I need and how to go about doing it?

Thanks!

I've only ever treated with formalin in a QT tank so I'm not sure of the procedure. Just do a search for it. Unless you QT then you can just follow the instructions on the bottle.

Ok, here is a video of the fish. Its not going to show you any more of the effected area because the quality isn't that great. What it will show you is how they are acting, which is pretty active and not lethargic at all. They are eating good as you can see I crushed up two flakes and they're going after it during the video.

After the video you'll see some pictures of my tank and its other inhabitants. The only reason I'm adding this is to show the condition of my corals/inverts and that everything else is doing great.

I'm at the Hockey arena so I can't check the vid. Because they are otherwise healthy is why I suggest a dip over qt. It doesn't sound real serious.

Well I ordered formalin but it won't be here until Thursday evening, I hope that I get it on time!

I read online that hyposalinity may help but I don't want to bother with it unless I know for sure. Would that make things worse?

This is just my opinion you do what you want. As long as the fish are eating I would let them be. Most of the time by removing the fish to treat you are doing more harm then good. The stress of moving the fish from tank to tank is more of a problem.

Well as of this morning they are doing the same, not any worse at all. The symptoms still remain visual only, they're swimming around and won't leave the frog spawn.

I'm wondering if its possible that the marks are from the fighting they went through the first couple days along with the addition of getting stung by the frogspawn. Who knows.

good point! i definitely agree that moving them should be avoided.

I would stay away from gnarly baths unless you are positive on exactly what is needed. Clownfish are very hardy and your fish appear to be very capable of recovery imo.

Here is my thoughts on your situation: I would focus on is feeding- purchase some quality frozen mysis and un-roasted nori - I think Piscene Energetics mysis are bar none the best option. Start incorporating some marine algae into their diet- clowns are omnivores and need 30-40% of their diet to consist of greens (i use nori, obviously live algae would be optimal). Feed smaller amounts throughout the day- as opposed to larger occasional feedings.(2-4 times daily is ideal if your filtration can keep up)

move away from relying on flake foods and start using quality frozen or fresh alternatives- you will see the difference! cyclopeeze is a good option- it is made in both frozen and freeze dried forms.

good luck and I hope this helps.

beautiful fish by the way! where did you get them?

Also agreed!!!
Unless shows other behavior changes/symptoms, let them be. Seemed happy and alert around Forgspawn. Besides, if my memory serves, Folmaldehyade based Med such as Formalin is definitely NO NO on any open wounds/lesions.

A dip treatment won't hurt a clownfish. Its not like they are an overly nervous fish. I don't recall anything about open wounds. Just "Peeling" It sounds as if they may be fine either way but I personally would prefer to treat rather than wait and see. That's just my nature I guess. It may workout to just wait. Often the fish get worse.

Today's update - They are doing better, bodies look better and they are still acting the same, not lethargic at all and eating great.
