collecting sea water

hey guys,

I live very close to the ocean and i was wondering if anyone knows if its OK to collect water for water changes from the coast or do you have to go out in a boat to collect the water?
There are no boats or anything around so there will be no oil/fuel or anything like that in the water...

The shoreline can potentially be very poluted, even if it looks great. It's like natures skimmer. Some would say get a boat and go out away from the shore to collect.

I know people here in Florida that collect water in the passes to the bay on a strong incoming tide. Check the tides and get it mid point of the incoming tide to make sure it is fresh.
