Colt Frags

I have a colt that has doubled in size since I got it (about 6 months ago) and am planning on fragging it on Tues. Is the best way to frag it with a single edge razorblade @ the base of the branch? I've seen the suggestion to put the frags in plastic cups with gravel (so as to keep them from floating around). Any other suggestions?

P.S. Once it's fragged, would love to trade if anyone's interested!

Razor blades work real well, or a sharp pair of scissors :) I would suggest some fishingline and a rock an wrap it up. You could do the gravel method, I had a bad experience using a cup. The flow went right over it and it just sat in it's own freshly cut juice and stagnated. So Ive learned since then that a good current can help recoup especially with leathers, but can make it difficult unless mounted with line, toothpic, veil, or glue, or a combination them. Some strawberry baskets could work well too.

I had the same experience as Justin with the cup method, does not work too well. All my colt frags have been notoriously difficult to mount. Many of them floated away, but did not die... I found them growing in the back of the tank (still not attached :)).

What I did find works best is sewing string and rock. The problem is that if its in a high flow area, the string will cut right through the base and the frag will float away. My suggestion is to sew it up high off the base a couple of times and keep it in a low flow for about 3-4 weeks. It will eventually attach and take off.

Good luck!

Well the good news is you will probably have a lot of opportunity to play with that thing if it grows like mine. :)
