Coming back after a 10yr break.

I have a 29 gal I'm going to set up as a reef tank and a fee fish. I want a goby and want to make sure the sand I have is good for it. I have the caribsea aragonite sand 10lb bags from petco. Will this work? I know I will have to get some larger sand for it to use too.

Yes the Caribsea aragonite sand line is suitable for sand sifting gobies

Yep.. Their entire aragonite line is in the range of acceptable grain sizes..

Too me, that appears to be a bit chuncky for sand sifters.
I might consider a bit finer grain

Sugar grain sand is blown around easily with powerheads...which usually makes the tank water look cloudy. Adding a layer of coarser sand on top helps resolve that problem...


...or you can just avoid using sugar grain in the first place.

This is why I was wondering if I could use this sand for gobies.

Im using the same substrate you pictured from Petco & i have a immature Watchman goby that is only about 3" now & it has no issues at all sand sifting this larger stuff. That surprised me when i first saw it do this due to its size but they have a big mouth & large gills. Mine likes to eat baby brittle stars as a snack and larger pods.

Not sure how you define finer grain as wrong? But Ok......I sure that course will be fine as well.
Mine prefer the smaller grain sand, easier to dig tunnels, don't get larger pieces stuck, they are just 2" so still small guys.
