Coming Soon

Nice dimensions !!! Rimless ? Bean-animal ? And welcome back Rob !!!

Probably not rimless. My thoughts are that I will build it into that space with the stand taking up the full 92", and use a 92" canopy. I want the lights in a canopy to minimize the light spilling into the room. I loved my open top tank, but having a tank in the same room as the TV, the light spilling out in the room can be a pain.

Probably a Herbie overflow, I need to get some details on the holes/ overflow setup, but I think there are 2 1" holes, and 2 3/4" holes on the 155. Which would setup great for a Herbie. Unless I can have the emergency drain on a Beananimal as a 3/4" with the 2 main drains as 1".

Yep that would be an awesome size. I look forward to this one.

Thank you sir, can't wait to see how my old 75 shapes up for you.

Hmmmmmm, you have 92" I say go 92" or we could tear a wall down and go bigger! Just kidding man, glad to see you back we need some more SPS guys in this town.

3" taller would be a standard 225, Oscar was talking about getting rid of his a while back but Im not sure what happened with that. Might be worth checking out though, its an awesome tank.

Hey, I got my wife to agree to allow the "TV Nook" to be repurposed as a home for a reef tank. Telling her I am going to tear down walls in "her" brand new house may be pushing it.

Speaking of which. Do you guys see an issues with moisture? Do I need to vent the stand and canopy to the hallway on the other side of that wall? Tearing down walls may be a problem, but I think I can get away with cutting holes in them. :D

I always have my doors to my stand proped open with a piece of styrofoam otherwise it gets pretty humid in there.

Have you thought about going open top and just making a frame to go around your lights, that way it looks like a canopy but gives you the ventilation of an open top and still blocks most of your light spillage.

I was just thinking about the stand. Since the stand will be 92" for a 72" tank, I was thinking I could have the 10" on each side at the back of the "deck" only...say 20" wide so there are vents on each side.

I think with the way I am thinking of doing the canopy I will be able to set up a typical fan set up. The canopy will have a 92" front, but I will have side panels one each end. I can just wire up a couple of 4" fans on one end and cut some slots on the other.

It makes sense rattling around in my head. Although I am a little concerned that I am putting way too much faith in my carpentry skills.

Well, I was talking with someone that has a DSA 155 Pro, and apparently the Pro has 3 1" drains, and 2 3/4" returns. Cool...beananimal it is.

And I need to measure the height of that space...eyeballing the 72x24x27 200gal.

Well...I am in full-on planning mode. Planning the move, planning the house layout, plannign backyard landscaping, planning a 600sqft tile job (any recommendations are welcome for a good tile guy. We've decided to pay to have someone do it rather than DIY it)...and of course planning a tank.

I am planning more off the 72x24 footprint than the 155 vs the 200.

Anybody have a good suggestion on a lumber source? I am debating a plan old pine finished stand or something a little nicer (reads as $$$$$$$$$$$$$$). Knotty Alderwood or Walnut would be the choices.

I think that a 40g breeder makes sense for a sump, but I am concerned that it will be too small. Plus I am planning on minimal LR in the display, so I will need space for LR in the sump. A 55g might be better, but I like the shape of the 40g breeder better.

I have it all in my mind, so I am super pumped to get back into the hobby. But we have to get moved first...

The lights were from an RC member...too good of a deal to pass up.

The real challenge is going to be surviving closing/moving. Then we are going to get a tile guy out to lay 600 or so sqft of wood-look tile.

Then it'll be full speed ahead on the tank build.
