Complete Proper Hyposalinity Treatment?

Can someone outline the full and complete Hyposalinity treatment?
Like Step 1: lower salinity 1 ppm over the course of a day?

First off, Hyposalinity can not be used in a reef tank. The following should be done in QT ideally, but can be done in a FOWLR.

Step 1- Make sure you have a calibrated Refractometer to measure
salinity. This is very important in order to ensure you get
the salinity levels correct.

Step 2- Make some RO/Di water. I mix mine in a 44 gallon "food Grade" Rubbermaid garbage can. To get the water at 1.010 salinity I use 16-18 scoops of salt (Instant Ocean). Because of the size of my tank(300 gallon) I have to fill and mix the Rubbermaids around 4-5 times. You can also use buffered RODI water to lower salinity faster. Make sure the temp of your water is the same as what your tank is at.

Step 3- Start water changes/lowering salinity. Fish can actually handle the lower salinity quicker than they can handle you raising the salinity. I lower my salinity in my FOWLR from 1.018 to 1.009 within a 48 hour period without any negative effects. You need to make sure the PH is appropriate(8.1-8.4) throughout Hypo salinity.

Hypo lasts 6-8 weeks. When you are ready to raise salinity it needs to be done very slowly over the course of a 5-7 day period.

It is actually quite simple, but you must be dilligent in order to ensure you keep salinity at 1.009 for the full 6-8 weeks. If salinity should go up, ich can survive and adapt to lower salinity environments.

I am sure others will chime in if I missed something.
