WOW,

I'm Completely amazed at th beauty of the mushrooms yoou all have in your tanks. I am not new to the hobby but I have a bunch of questions and was wondering if you all wouldn't mind helping me out.

After seeing all your pics I have decided I need to have some of the beautiful creatures inmy reef tank. Heres the set up

30 gal plenty of LR no corals in the tank

Protein skimmer, Chiller, Filtration ettc.

Lighting is a Coralife Compact Florescent 2 65watt 1 Blue Actintic and 1 Normal Flourescent came with the hood.

What Species of mushroom would you all reccomend to start with?

How do I acclimate them? Both water and Light?

Will they get along with my other livestock (Gold Maroon Clown, Coral Beauty, 4 line damsel, 6 line wrass, Brittle Star, Sand Star various snails and redlegged hermit crabs)?

What type of water chemistry should I have ? (PH, Salinity, Alk, etc)

How hard are they to keep?

Are they pretty Hardy ?

Any information would greatly be appreciated and I will post pics once I get some in the tank and what not?

Thanks in Advance, and I look forward to the repsonses

FYI pics would be helpfull as well when tlaking about sertain species as the books I have, have very few pic of mushroom species.

I wouldnt start with Ricordea sp. first off, but any old morph/shroom. Fluffy/Fuzzy Shrooms are bullet proof and are probably the toughest.

Use the drip method for water acclimitisation, and depending on the step up or down fro the shop to your tank on the lighting. If the LFS has halides, you wont need light acclimitisation IME.

Sounds alright to me, although im not 100% on the birttle star, what sort is it?

IME it doesnt matter what so ever, as long as the conditions are reasonable, and not extreme. If you acclimatise them properly, they should be ok and will open regardless of the change between your tank and the LFS's.

How hard are they to keep?

Very easy, they are a great beginner coral, no feeding (unless you really want to), and can put up with a change in water quality or conditions.

Are they pretty Hardy ?

Deffinately. Hardest thing to kill in many reefs!

Mr. Miagi,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions I really appreciate it. I went to my LFS today and they only had 1 RIC and I wasnt all that impressed with its color. Ill be adding some mushrooms to my tank late this week as soon as I get them in i'll post up my pics. Thanks again for the reply.
