Concerned about weight of my next aquarium.

Hey all.

I'm planning on setting up a 75g DT with a 55g sump, I'm not exactly sure what the total weight will be but including the stand, live rock, and substrate it will weigh more than the water alone. The tank will be in a room on the third floor of my house, this room has two 55g tanks in it already but they are on opposite sides of the wall (when I get my next tank, one of the 55s are going to a friend and the other is being used as my new sump).

Do you think I'll be fine?

The more you're able to spread that weight out over multiple floor joists, the better you'll be. Obviously sticking close to a wall (a given) will be safest. Try to locate the load bearing walls, if any, in your room and place the weight closest to it. Without knowing your flooring setup, it's hard to suggest this, but if you added a sheet of 1/2" plywood under the setup, that would also help to evenly distribute the load. Make sure you're going perpendicular to the floor joists so as to sit on as many as possible rather than parallel to just one or two. Honestly your recommended floor load is probably less than 100 lbs per square foot up there so you're really pushing the limits of the structural integrity of your floor joists.
