Connecting IceCap ballast to RO3 pendant

I ordered a pair of IceCap ballasts and Reef Optix 3 pendants from you. I am wondering what the best way is to connect the ballasts to the pendants. Can I get a female plug that I can hook up to the IceCap, or do I have to just cut the end off the cable from the pendant and hardwire it?

Also, do I have to mount the ballast in some kind of enclosure? I was thinking of just mounting it to the top of my stand (i.e. upside down, underneath the tank inside the stand). Any issues you see with that?

Thanks,

Mike

I checked Sunlight Supply's website, and they sell a female receptacle plug - Product # 10655. Could I get a couple of these through PA?

Hi Mike,

We do have those plugs instock, our online link to them is:
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PA&Product_Code=SL-BFEM

That would make a nice way to install them and still preserving your quick connect. Using the ballast open like that is fine, as long as all your connects are protected from water splash and excessive moisture should be no problem. Having it in a case offers some additional safety and most likely would be up to "code", if there was a building inspector, but other then that having it open is no problem.

thanks

I know you sell enclosures for the Ice Cap ballasts that have PFO plugs. Any idea if the PFO plug could be swapped out for the RO plug, i.e. is the hole the same size?

You could use our PFO EL box and wire in the Sunlight instead. Only hard thing is the Sunlight is a bigger plug, so you would either need to cut out the hole bigger where the plug fits in there, or just leave the majority of the quick connect sticking out of the box, so everything would be sealed up good except that entry point. Make sense?
