does anyone know how to control pulsing xenias. ive been cleaning off
my rocks and throwing it way. and it seems that isnt working and more just
keeps on coming back. eeek!!!

add rubble rock around the main piece where the xenia is, as it grows to the rubble take it to local fish and get credit!

The stuff is horrible....to think it was the coral that got me into the hobby :).

The only control is to limit where it can grow. I currently keep a very good sized colony on its own baseball sized island. It is gets anywhere near another rock, ti will lift itself onto it.

Frag it, slice it, chop it....if you can make a buck off of it go for it.

the bane of an aquarist... the pulsing xenia... if its any consolation to you it was one of the corals that got me into the hobby also and I've spent each day since trying to get rid of it :)..... its kinda like Mint in the garden, once you have it, you will always have some of it :) The only good news is, as the previous posters noted, there seems to always be someone out there looking for it so frag away.

I had a filefish that ate Xenia. He ate a couple of other types of coral as well, Hammer and Frogspawn, but he left the other types I had alone.

i did the rubble rock method and tried to keep it isolated. if it can lean over and attach to anything, it will!

This made me laugh because I spent 20 minutes pulling mint up yesterday :D

yes if it touches anything it will grow to it. I see alot of people on here as they get there nutrients down it starts to die off and is easier to control. I am starting to get tired of mine as well

I got rid of most of mine, but had a stubborn piece of it that hung on for dear life. I put a Hammer next to it and the Hammer was the hit man...killed it once and for all.

I cut, brushed, and threw it away. I hadn't seen any in months and it popped back up, no where near where I had it. The isolation technique is the best way to control it if you want to keep it. Mine had a tendency to grow toward the light. If you want to keep it...keep it away from flow and up in the tank. This way it can't grow any higher and spread.

I don't understand why people hate it so much. I love the stuff! If it is in a big patch it looks amazing. One of my favorite softies.

I have it growing on the back glass of my tank. I started it about halfway up the glass. It always moves up the glass for me.

Will it live?

Will it live?

How can I keep mine alive while my tank cycles? My friend gave me some live rock from his sump with Xenia on it. I have had in there for a day and it is still pulsing. I set the tank up 5 days ago.
