Converting from reef to FOWLR question

Hello,
I'm in the process of converting my 75 gallon reef into a FOWLR, I've sold just about everything, what I have left in my tank is a false clown and a starfish, and some sand. I do have a protein skimmer going and I 've been doing water changes. what I was planning was to put some sand and the clown and starfish in another tank I have, while I empty the 75 gallon and start from scratch. now this tank has been up for almost 2 years, is that a good idea. I basically want to get rid of the sand(southdown) and put a course aragonite sand in , and put in some base rock I have and seed it with a few pieces of live rock. Is emptying the tank the way to go or can I change the sand ( maybe half at a time) while the tank is still running an not have to cycle the tank again.

also I was going to use my aqua c remora, amiracle wet/dry and a UV sterilizer for filtration. is that the way to go with a FOWLR. or just my aqua c remora, and a hob refugium.

Thank you

both will work. if you really wanna change the sand that badly. if its really dirty, andif you dont mind moving to another tank, that would be my choice.

Thank you,
the sand isn't really dirty, I just like the look of a course aragonite, I only want too put 1 or 2 inches in, I just know the tank is cycled, I would like to have time too take my time to set up the new one, but I don't know if it's a good idea to have to cycle it again.
