I have a hair algae problem so I decided to pull out the lr and cook it in the dark. Its been 2 months. Does anyone know when its safe to put the rock back in or when should the hair algae be dead?

I read somewhere that if you cure the live rock in a container with no light whatsoever it will kill off any kind of algae that needs light but will keep all the bacteria that makes the rock "live". It was in a thread I read a while back and I dont remember what the recommended lenght of time was for this process to work.

I suppose that could work - I hadn't heard of it before. Two months with no light should have done the trick.

Cooking rock is a very popular method and should be monitored through the use of test kits. After 2mths devoid of light, any photosynthetic animal will have died leaving only the bacteria.
