Cool new alveopora coral!

tektite

I never finish anyth
Got a new coral, an Alveopora :) Wish it would stay this very pale fluorescent green, awesome looking! I'm curious over time what the un-bleached coral will look like. Maybe it will stay light, that would be sweet. I also like how long the tentacles are.

I know, I just really liked the polyp structure compared to most alveopora I've seen, decided to take the risk. I'll be target feeding it for awhile, to help compensate for lack of zooxanthellae.

there is a species of alveopora with that color and it is not bleached. I,ve kept it for years without any problem. The only issue is light that shouldn't be too strong and feeding

Yes, I fragged the coral when I got it, the half I put in my macroalgae tank is already picking up some brown in its tentacles. Encouraging sign.

Coral still doing good a week in. I've tried spot feeding it but have not yet observed it eating. Its settled in well, not yet coloring up much, but is showing signs of growth already :)

Continuing to slowly get more color:

I tried to match the sand/rock background exactly to the first picture so you can see the color difference in the coral.

Looks healthy other than the slight bleaching, which could cause smaller polyp extension. It has definitely colored up since you have put it in your tank. I have saved many a bleaching/dying lps coral (although never an Alveopora, haven't had the opportunity yet). Looks like it should come back! But one word of advice: get those acans away from it. One thing a stressed coral doesn't like is getting stung by another coral, or even engaging in chemical warfare with coral (even if it wins). For feeding, try the top-of-a-2-litre-pop-bottle trick. It will guarantee the food to be eaten, cyclopeeze might be easier for it to eat, since it is stressed and they are smaller particles.

Good luck! Keep updating!

I've tried feeding it with no success yet. Its still coloring up and even showing some signs of new growth so I'm not too concerned with that at the moment. Very curious what the final color will be :) I still love this alveopora's polyp structure, very different from most.

looks nice man.

i might try to get one off DD next week. i had my heart set out for a goniopora, but everyone on the board keeps saying how difficult they are.
