Cooling and Evaporation....

Lately its been pretty warm here in Tampa, Florida. My tank temperature was hanging between 80 and 82. So I figured I would try blowing a fan across the sump. Last night I bought a small, clip on fan and hooked it up. This morning the tank temperature was a cool 77.5 deg F. However, my evaporation rate doubled. I guess I will look for a larger top off container....Like a 7 or 10 gallon. Or, I could get a 30gal Brute to put in the corner of the room next to the tank and just hang a table cloth over it. :)

Anyway, the fan thing works for those who dont want a chiller...but prepare for the evaporation!

Yes I noticed the same thing on my tank. More evap means more limewater also. Somthing you have to watch out for. Somtimes my tank gets to 86f. Lately its running at 80f. My temp comes from all the pumps I got running(5 of them)

no the water evaporates, wich brings in more top off water=more limewater in the top off. :) My limewater is my top off, so any increase in evaporation increases the calcium and alkalinity also.
