I recently set up an algae scrubber and a few hrs ago water got on the led lights and corroded the circuit/conductors while I wasn't there. I came down probably about 1hr later and all the corals were closed, etc. thankfully the 2 fish and cleaner shrimp are ok. Ive had a similar situation before with a bronze/copper fitting, but the corals did not react so quickly so im thinking this time is worse.
Im pretty sure what happened last time, was that the copper killed alot of the bacteria in the water essentially restarting the nitrogen cycle in my tankwhich took months to restabilize.
Obviously i want to avoid these long term effects this time and clear this problem up as quickly as possible. So far, ive put a filter bag of .08 carbon in the tank and am going to to a water change as soon as i mix it.
Is there anything else i can do to minimize the damge. I also have a bottle microbacter which i thought might help to recover the bacteria lost. Pls dont tell me to drain/restart the tank because thats obviously not possible.
If you have any advice/ideas pls let me know.
